Quality Manager, Sediment & Risk Assessment Group
JR Flanders is an environmental toxicologist with 20 years of experience implementing technical/legal strategies at high profile sediment and upland sites for clients in the US, EU, Middle East, and Asia. JR’s scientific background is mercury biogeochemistry and has expanded to include environmental forensics of PCBs and PAHs in aquatic systems. He has used his understanding of analytical chemistry to provide accurate measurements of site footprints in the environment. JR currently supports a number of clients in allocation projects throughout the US. In addition, JR has led the design and completion of watershed-level baseline ecological risk assessments and fate and transport studies, and statistically based monitoring programs for remedial effectiveness. On upland sites, JR has used his understanding of mercury analytical and speciation techniques to focus areas of investigation and reduce remedial footprints. He has served as project leader on several large high profile impacted waterways, including the South River, Columbia River, Anacostia River, Mohawk River, and various sites within the Newark Bay complex. JR also presents in peer-reviewed journals and at national confer-ences and has served as editor for peer-reviewed journals (ES&T, Environmental Pollution).
