Operations at the Queensland facility and the historical on-site disposal of wastes have resulted in soil, groundwater and sediment contamination at the site. EHS Support was tasked with developing and implementing a comprehensive investigation and assessment program to define the nature and extent of soil impacts in the historic phosphogypsum burial area and the contributions from this area to identified groundwater contamination, along with potential surface water impacts. At the time of the remedial works the site was operational, and subsequently all operations on site have ceased
The scope of work included:
Detailed analysis of historical data and development of a preliminary conceptual site model
Development and implementation of a supplemental investigation program
Completion of NORM and TENORM assessments on phosphate residuals
Completion of an assessment of remedial options
Development and implementation of a remedial action plan for removal of buried phosphogypsum
