EHS Support provided expert support services to facilitate the development of remedial cost estimates for a major Australian airport and support claims associated with past cost incurred. Work tasks included:
- Development of site-specific risk-based criteria protective of human and ecological receptors for PFAS associated with fire-fighting foam products
- Identification of datagaps and uncertainties based on assessment of existing data relative to risk based criteria; definition of the nature and extent of soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water issues requiring management/remediation; preliminary screening of remedial alternatives
- Development of remedial cost estimates. To support the development of risk-based criteria, a comprehensive database of human health toxicity reference values and ecological benchmarks was compiled from multiple sources and agencies to assess PFAS exposures and enable comparisons.
Innovation
Following completion of the risk assessment, EHS Support developed remedial alternatives and costs for key areas of the site focused on mitigation of further leaching to groundwater, management of groundwater migration and discharge of groundwater to surface water.
