The Moomba Gas Hub is a major hazardous facility receiving and processing gas, condensate and oil from the Cooper Basin. The facility includes gas treatment and processing facilities as well as crude and condensate storage facilities. Liquid products including propane are transferred from the site via pipeline to Port Boynthon while gas is transported by pipeline to multiple domestic markets (South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales) as well as the Curtis Island LNG facility. EHS Support has been working for over 12 years at this facility in a range of major projects including:
- Investigation and assessment of the main Moomba Gas and Liquids processing facility including all
process areas and waste management areas - Completion of risk assessments on historic waste management facilities including landfills, sludge
disposal areas and evaporation ponds and the development of waste disposal criteria for the new
landfill cells - Completion of Natural Source Zone Depletion Assessments within the operational facility and
historic legacy production sites. This has involved over 10 major assessments conducted over
multiple years - Design, construction and operation of light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) recovery systems
within operational areas of the Moomba plant and at Satellite oil and gas processing facilities - Negotiation and completion of a legacy site investigation program at over 1,100 sites within
the Cooper Basin. This program was a multi-year work program involving the compilation of
historic data, supplemental investigations, groundwater modelling, LNAPL mobility and recovery
assessments - Development of site specific risk assessments for the legacy site work program and negotiation of
a decision logic framework for assessment and closure of sites. This framework has been approved
by the agency and is currently being actively implemented.
