Environmental Impact Assessments & Environmental Permitting

In modern industry, the challenges of finding economic resources and driving economic performance has resulted in larger, sometimes more complex, projects in remote regions and in many cases sensitive environments.

Today, one of the main concerns for a company is how the decision will affect the environment and community at large. That said, simply understanding a project’s potential environmental and social impacts is not enough. You also have to be able to frame a project that avoids, mitigates and manages potential impacts; is practically constructed and operated and is financially viable. And that’s where EHS Support can help.

Experience, Knowledge & Know-How

Whether it is project planning, specialist studies, engineering design, stakeholder communication and management or permitting/resource consenting, EHS Support’s knowledge of, and experience with, environmental impacts assessments ensures you’re in good hands. We have a long track record of delivering on some of the largest integrated oil-and-gas projects, heavy industry and mining projects—from project inception and feasibility, through exploration, production, development and decommissioning. Focusing on capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expense (OPEX) optimisation, we understand what it takes to deliver a successful project and ensure it’s financially viable to achieve positive environmental and social outcomes.

Our experts dive deep from the inception of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), giving ample time and consideration to your project’s potential impacts and what needs to be done to assess and mitigate these impacts. We listen first and then act with a focus and a sense of urgency that can deliver even on the most complex of projects, providing feedback throughout to ensure that designs reflect consideration of impacts. The result: practical and implementable solutions for the avoidance, mitigation and management of environmental and social impacts.

Our staff have many years of practical hands-on experience applying for and successfully negotiating and obtaining environmental permits and resource consents (in New Zealand) for a range of clients and industries. We pride ourselves on obtaining permits/consents for clients in a “no non-sense” manner that delivers workable permits/consents for the use of land and discharges to the environment.

A Dedicated, Results-Driven Team

At EHS Support, our EIA team has a long history of working on projects from the concept phase through final investment decision and operation. Our history of delivering on a range of projects—large-scale, upstream oil-and-gas; integrated energy projects; mining impact assessments and approvals; and smaller, heavy industrial projects—combined with professionals with industry and regulatory experience, gives you a dedicated team that is focused on developing financially viable projects.

Our Project Experience

Integrated Power Generation & LNG Importation Project

Integrated Power Generation & LNG Importation Project

We worked with tech providers to develop a conceptual design for an integrated gas-delivery model. This involved importation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) into Mozambique, transport of ISO containers of LNG, establishment of logistics hubs for gasification and compression, conversion of a power station from coal- to gas-fired generation and provision of LNG and gas to major industrial clients. Integrated designs, EIAs, economic models and CAPEX and OPEX optimisation assignments drove the project to the final investment decision.

Coal-Seam Gas and Mining Projects

Coal-Seam Gas and Mining Projects

Our team has a long history of critical resource development projects providing project management for the whole EIA and undertaking or managing technical studies, including groundwater, surface water, soils, ecology, air quality, noise, social and traffic impacts. Projects have included major coal-seam gas (CSG) well developments, LNG facilities, shale-oil mining and processing facilities, greenfield mine developments, coal-mine expansions, clean-coal power generation, and CO2 sequestration.

Risk Assessment & Management Plans for Beneficial Uses of Production Water

Risk Assessment & Management Plans for Beneficial Uses of Production Water

Managing produced water from oil-and-gas development projects is costly. We’ve done numerous environmental and engineering assessments to evaluate and implement the beneficial use of produced water: crop irrigation, stock watering, managed aquifer recharge and enhancement of environmental flows in waterways. These complex and multi-faceted studies involve hydrology, hydrogeology, ecology, soil science, crop science, radiological sciences, toxicology and human health and ecological risk assessment.

Assessment of Toxicology, Operational, and Environmental Risks Associated with Hydraulic Fracturing and Chemical Use

Assessment of Toxicology, Operational, and Environmental Risks Associated with Hydraulic Fracturing and Chemical Use

For years we've assessed the risks of hydraulically fracturing activities and new stimulation chemical systems in the environment, as well as the management and beneficial use of flow back/produced water. This includes risks associated with aquifer systems, groundwater/surface water interactions and deep-well waste injection. Our assessments are critical in the approval of proposed activities, the establishment of industry guidance and operational protocols and the development of new fluid systems.
